Hairstyle trends come and go, following no discernible pattern. This is particularly true with women’s short hairstyles. While some basic hairstyles remain popular, like the bob, it’s really the variations on those themes that come in and out of style all the time.
Spiked Hairstyles
One of the most enduring of women’s short hairstyles, since its inception in the 1960s, has been the spiked look. Especially popular with natural or dyed blonde hair, this style is created by cutting the hair in a seemingly erratic way that is actually carefully planned. This creates more body than would otherwise be the case if the hair were cut all one length. It is particularly helpful for women who want a sexy short hairstyle, but have thin or limp hair. The resulting mish-mash of hair going in several different directions works beautifully, especially with blonde locks.
A Women’s Short Hairstyles Mainstay – The Bob
The aforementioned bob haircut has been a staple of women’s short hairstyles since it first hit the scene in the mid-1910s. It came of age and was wildly popular in the 1920s, when Flappers adopted the look, often taking it to extremes. While the bob remained one of the most popular of women’s short hairstyles in subsequent decades, in the 1960s and then more recently, it has been resurgent. Its appeal is its easy upkeep and face-framing cuteness.
A Popular Bob Variation
A variation on the bob that has been picking up converts in the last 10 years or so is a women’s short hairstyle that looks beautiful on women who have oval shaped faces. This hairstyle is created by first cutting the hair one standard length, coming roughly to the jaw line and around to the nape of the neck. Then, the hair is parted in the middle, pulled off the forehead to expose it, and finally curled inward at the bottom all the way around to frame the face and head. It’s one of the simplest of women’s short hairstyles you’ll see anywhere. For women with the right facial structure (oval shape, smaller noses, eyes, and mouths), it can be quite stunning.
A slightly more complicated example of women’s short hairstyles is being seen more and more in fashion and beauty magazines and being worn by celebrities. It is created by cutting hair about one inch below the ear lobes in the front and sides, and about 4 inches longer from the ears back. The hair is then parted on the side (doesn’t matter which) and swept diagonally across the forehead and face to the other side, dropping to a spot between the ear lobe and jaw line. The eye on the opposite side from the part is partially covered in some variations, producing a cute, seductive look that many women who like short hairstyles crave. The longer hair on the sides and back falls straight down, with a slight outward curl and frizzy ends.
Women’s short hairstyles are generally easier to manage (faster blow drying, quicker in the shower, not as warm in the summer). This is one of the big advantages for today’s ultra-busy woman who is always on the go. |
